For our customers with Red Hat 5.x The file rh5-libs.tar.gz contains libc 5 libraries that are necessary to get the UNIX Power Tools, 2nd Edition CDROM to work on a Red Hat 5.x system. With Red Hat 5.0, Red Hat moved to using the Gnu Libc libraries, libc6. Our installation program was compiled using libc5. While Red Hat includes some libc5 libraries for older programs, they did not include all the files needed by our install program. If you try to run our program and receive segmentation faults, you will probably need these libraries. Unpack this file from the root directory. (You will need root access to do this.) The libraries will be added to your /usr/i486-linux-libc5/lib/ directory which contains your other legacy libc5 files. Run ldconfig. Now you should be able to run our install program. If you still have problems running the install program, contact Book Support at bookquestions@oreilly.com.
